Requirements and Specifications

 

This class is designed to be inexpensive not a beginner class but beginners are welcomed

 

FRAME:

Mid-size GM 1978-1987 metric full frames only with 108” wheel base as per OEM stock specifications; all frame bolt holes must remain in stock location.  Wheel base may be  minimum of 107” and maximum of 109”.

WEIGHT:

Minimum weight is 2450 pounds with driver after race.  All added weights must be painted white with car number clearly marked.  Also all weights must be attached with a minimum of 2 (two) ½” steel bolts and mounted under body to frame rail.  No mounting of weights on bumpers.  Loss of weight could result in fine from the track if deemed necessary.

 

ENGINE:

1.  Maximum cubic inches = 305. Plus over bore .G.M. 305 cid small block chevy  only   V-8 blocks and heads only. Small blocks only. No special order blocks

2.  No Bowtie, Dart or aluminum blocks.  No big blocks.

3.  Flat-top, four equal valve relief or dished CAST  pistons only.

4.  Minimum of zero deck height is allowed.

5.  Stock OEM 305 crankshaft for block used, stock stroke and stock OEM rods. Maximum of a 5.7” rod length and 3.48 stroke for GM 305 cu. In. engines.  No aftermarket cranks. No machining of crank other than balancing. No lightening. 

6.  Aftermarket rod bolts, main bolts, and head bolts are allowed. No studs.

7.  Stock or circle track claimer pan is allowed. oil pan must have one ( 1 ) inch  inspection plug between the second and third (from the front), oil pan bolts either side will be fine. NO PLUG NO RACE

8.  Fluid damper is allowed.

9.  Cast iron water pumps ONLY                                                                                                                    

10.  No aftermarket starters, no mini starters, full size starter as in the same size as came on a 1979 chevy truck with a 305 cid  or 350 cid                                                                                                                    

11.  Steel side engine mounts may be stock or 45-degree style.

12.  Engine mid-plate is allowed.  May be aluminum.

13.  Engine must pull 17 inches of vacuum at 1000 rpm and not more than 160 psi compression with five starter hits.

14.  oil pan must have one ( 1 ) inch  inspection plug between the second and third (from the front), oil pan bolts either side will be fine. NO PLUG NO RACE

NO ENGINE PARTS TO BE SPECIAL ORDER PERFORMANCE PARTS 

 

Location:

1.  Back of engine flange must be mounted at a minimum of 70” forward of the centerline of the rear axle.  This will be measured on the passenger side of the car.

2.  Minimum engine height is 11” from the ground to the center of the crankshaft This will be measured on the front of the crankshaft pulley.

Camshaft:

.450” maximum lift .Hydraulic lifter cams only.  Hydraulic lifters only.  No roller hydraulic lifters.  Anti-pump up lifters okay.  No gear drives.  Maximum of 4 bronze bushings in the lifter bores. Must pull 17 inches of vacuum at 1000 rpms

 

Cylinder Heads:

1.  Only OEM cylinder heads 305 HEADS ONLY no other heads allowed, documentation required. If you are unsure ask before you buy                                                                                                                                     

2.  No porting, polishing, or port matching allowed.  Screw in studs are allowed.  Stock spring diameter only, with a maximum of 120 lb. seat pressure. No guide plates

3.  No angle milling.  Heads may be flat milled.  Minimum of 57 cc is required.

4. Stock stamped steel rocker arm only.  No full roller rocker arms or roller tip rocker arms.

5.  Maximum valve size:  GM 1.84” intake, 1.5” exhaust.  Poly-locks are allowed.  Stud girdles are not allowed.

6NO aluminum or titanium components.

7.  most breather/valve cover configuration/composition are allowed. No ram air

Intake:

1.  GM:  stock , OEM cast iron is required. No machining of intake, no extra water lines or any other add ons.

2No high riser, no marine or Bowtie, no tall intakes.

3No Brezinski, porting, polishing, acid dipping, or anything similar allowed.

CARBURETOR:

You may only run one carburetor on intake.

 A.  , Holley #4412 two barrel.  only

B. Carburetor spacer/adapter is allowed, but  must not exceed 1” total thickness ,      gaskets not to exceed Ό” inch.

C.  Carburetor must be stock and unaltered with only one exception, circle track floats may be used.  Holley must have choke horn attached.

D.  No Edelbrocks or similar high-performance carburetors allowed.

 

IGNITION:

A.  All cars must have ignition switch clearly labeled.

B.  Ignition switch must be located within reach when standing outside the car (easily accessible to emergency personnel).

C.  Stock or stock style ignitions only.

D.   HEI must remain in one unit.  NO external coils allowed.

E.  MSD or any module may be used as long as it fits inside the distributor with no alterations.  Vacuum advance may be removed and the pick-up coil locked.

F.  MSD, any brand, or GM electronic boxes are not allowed.  No magnetos.

 

BATTERY :

Only one 12 volt battery allowed.  Must be securely mounted.  Subject to tech inspection!  May be charged by an alternator.

 

EXHAUST SYSTEM:

MOST, 1 5/8” tube, 4 into 1 with 3” collector, one piece header.  180 degrees allowed.  Headers must bolt directly to the head with no modifications or adapter. No step headers. If you are unsure ask before you buy .

 

RADIATOR:

1.  Only one radiator allowed and must be mounted in front of engine.  May be aluminum. Maximum size:  27” x 19”.

2.  Racing radiator cap allowed.

3.  Electric cooling fan in front of radiator allowed. May not have water outlets to spray on radiator.  Catch cans required.

 

FUEL:

Gasoline only.  No alcohol.  No nitrous.  No other performance enhancers allowed.

 

FUEL PUMP:

O.E.M. style non take a part fuel pump only.  NO electric fuel pump.  Only stock mounted, push-rod activated ,lever type  allowed.  No bypass fuel systems, pressurized, or return lines allowed.  No regulators of any type .No bolt together pumps

 

FUEL CELL:

1.  Maximum 22 gallon fuel cell with a roll-over valve is required.  Must be securely mounted inside trunk area only, must be between frame rails and must be totally enclosed from the driver’s compartment.  A minimum of 2 fuel cell straps, 2” x 1/8”, are required to secure the fuel cell.

2.  Fuel cell protection bar is required.  Must be a minimum of 1 ½” x 0.095”.  It must protect the fuel cell from the rear.  It must be as low as the fuel cell, and extend from side to side as wide as the fuel cell.  It is recommended that this bar be attached to the frame, not the bumper.  If the fuel cell protection bar is not present, the car will not be allowed to continue running.

 

TRANSMISSION:

1.  most OEM automatic transmission are  allowed.  No power glides. Must have three or four forward gears and they must all work even reverse Unit must be stock and have a full working steel torque converter, minimum of 12.”.  NO direct drives, couplers, valved pumps, or bleeder style valve bodies.  Transmissions  must have all forward gears and reverse gear must be in working order.                                                                                 

2.  Car must be self-starting and have working neutral, reverse, and forward.

3.  Transmission fluid coolers are allowed.

4.  NO STANDARD TRANSMISSIONS.

5. 168 tooth fly wheel ONLY no small fly wheels

DRIVE-SHAFT:

Drive-shaft must be steel and must be painted white or silver, or fluorescent orange,  Must have a steel drive-shaft loop (360 degrees), connected to the frame located within 6” of the front drive-shaft u-joint. Minimum size is 2” x Ό” or a minimum of 1” O.D. tubing.  No chain loops allowed as front loops.

 

REAR END:

1.  Rear end must be 7.5” GM 10-bolt with stock width.  Aftermarket axles, studs, and mini-spools are allowed.  No posi-trac, limited slip style rear ends.  Rear end axles must be locked together at all times.

2.  A method to restrict axles from coming out is mandatory.  C-clip eliminators or disc brakes permitted.

3.  Any gear ratio may be used, if no alteration to housing is required.

4.  Bolt pattern on the axle/drum may be changed.  Pinion angle may not be altered at all.

 

BRAKES:

1.  Single or dual master cylinder aftermarket brake pedal is allowed.  Pedal adjuster is allowed within drivers reach.

2.  Rear disc brakes maximum of 12” steel hats and rotors.  No single phase rotors allowed.

3.  A proportioning valve may be used and may be installed within the driver’s reach.

4.  Minimum of 3 working brakes is required.  If using 3 brakes, the fourth brake components need not be present.  Spindle must remain unaltered.

5.  Cooling holes may not be drilled in any brake components.

6.  No aluminum brake components allowed.

 

STEERING:

1.  Quick release steering wheel is mandatory.

2.  Quick steer is optional.  No chains or sprockets allowed in the steering system.

3.  Steering left of drive train only.

4.  Bump steer cannot be adjusted.  Center link, inner tie-rods, outer tie-rods, or sleeves cannot be altered.

5.  Power steering is allowed.

6.  Aftermarket power steering pump may be used; pump and reservoir must remain one unit.

7No rack and pinion steering.  Stock OEM steering gear box must be used.

 

SUSPENSION:

1.  Upper control arm brackets may be moved for caster and camber adjustment.

2.  Must use stock upper control arms and brackets.

3.  Upper and lower control arms bushings may be aftermarket.

4.  Sway bars and brackets must remain stock.  Bushings may be aftermarket.

5.  Racing springs are allowed.  Steel only.  No coil-overs.  No jack bolts allowed.  Adjustable spring buckets are allowed.

6.  Spindles and rotors must remain stock.  Ball-joints must remain stock appearing, size and length.  No grinding or lightened parts.  Lower ball-joint may be large size and welded in.

7No drilling cooling holes in rotor.  5/8” studs are allowed in any bolt pattern.

8.  Rear trailing arms must remain stock for frame used.  Must remain stock length.  Must not compress or lengthen.  Arms may be boxed or strengthened.  Aftermarket OEM style bushings may be used.  NO spherical, ball bearing or Timken bearings as any part of the cars suspension.  Each trailing arm must have all bushings installed and in good working order.

9No suspension parts may be altered or lightened.

10No aluminum parts allowed, other than bushings.

 

SHOCKS:

1.  Shocks must be  part number 20724 front and 20802 rear,  at O REILLY’S , part number 47569 front 47570 rear at Car Quest and  part number 81494 front and 81492 rear at Auto Zone                   

2.  The stock shock frame mounts must be used in the original stock location.

3.  One shock per wheel.

 

FRAME:

1.  Frame cannot be cut, bent, or altered to change suspension brackets.

2.  Front frame horns can be cut off in front of the steering box/idler arm.

3.  Rear frame rails may be cut off behind upper shock mounts.

4.  Replacement may be made with round, square, or rectangular tubing.

 

ROLL CAGE:

1.  Main roll cage must consist of continuous hoops not less than 1 ½” x 0.095”.  All welds must be complete.  NO brazing or soldering.  NO part of main cage may extend past rear motor plate to the front.  The main roll bar must not attach to the frame past the front edge of the rear tire.

2.  Main roll bar and halo must be a minimum of 1” above the driver’s helmet.

3.  A minimum of 3 driver side door bars, and 2 passenger side door bars is required.

4.  Two (2) bars, one per side, may extend from the main roll cage to points on the main frame in front of the upper control arms.  These bars may have 2 additional braces per side to the main frame.

5.  Four (4) bars may extend from the main cage to rear, 2 to the main frame and 2 to the upper shock mount area.  In addition, X-bracing is allowed.

 

NERF BARS:

One single nerf bar between the front and rear wheels, on each side of the car, is allowed.  Maximum size is 1 ½” x 0.095”.  They are to be attached to the cage at the front and rear sections of the nerf bar.  No center supports are allowed on the nerf bar.  Ends must be capped and may not extend outside of tires.

 

WINDSHIELD BARS:

Minimum of 3 vertical windshield bars 5/16” in diameter is required.  Must be mounted in front of driver.

 

TIRES:

AR kk704 or Hoosier g60, hard only

 

WHEELS:

1.  Only steel 15” x 8” or steel 14” x 8” wheels are allowed.  Right rear beadlock allowed.

2.  No wheel spacers allowed.  Any offset wheel allowed.  5/8” studs are allowed.

3.  One inch diameter lug nuts are required.

4. maximum tire width 76”

 

INTERIOR:

Oil and transmission fluid coolers are not allowed in the driver’s compartment.

 

UPHOLSTERY:

1No upholstery allowed, other than driver’s seat cover.

2.  No plastic is allowed in driver’s cockpit.

 

 

FLOOR:

Must be metal.  Must cover the entire driver’s cockpit.

 

BUMPERS:

1.  Two (2) bar front bumper is mandatory.  Minimum size is 1 Ό” x 0.095”; maximum size is 1 ½” x 0.095”.

2.  One single bar rear bumper is required.  Maximum size is 1 Ύ”.  The required fuel cell protection bar (max. size 1 ½” x 0.095”) may be attached to the rear bumper.

 

DRIVER RESTRAINT SYSTEM:

 

Seat:

            Aluminum racing seats with right side rib protection is required.  A seat that provides both left

            and right side rib protection is recommended.  Seat must be securely mounted.  The racing

            seat must be bolted to a reinforced cross-member and bracket(s).  This cross-member must

            be welded to the roll cage, not just the floorboard.  The back of the seat must be supported

            and bolted to a flange that is connected by weld to the cage.

 

            Seat Belts:

            1.  Racing type 5-point seat belts are mandatory.  Must be approved 3” wide shoulder straps

            and a minimum of one 2” sub strap.  All belt systems must be securely attached to the roll

            cage or seat cross-member and not to the floorboard.

            2.  Seat belt dates must be current up to a maximum of 5 years old.  If the date is not visible

            the belts are not approved.

 

            Window Net:

1.  Window nets are mandatory.  It may be the mesh or web style.  Sprint car nets are allowed.

            2.  A quick release window net system must be used.

 

            Helmet:

            Approved racing helmets only:  full face Snell SA90 or newer.  It must have Snell SA90, SA95,

             or SA00 sticker clearly visible in the helmet.  If the Snell rating decal is not visible, then the

            helmet is not approved.  No DOT only helmets.

 

            Protective Clothing:

 

            1.  Driver suit (fire suit) mandatory; may be one piece or two piece; must be complete and be

            of fire resistant material and in good safe condition.                                                                                                

            2.  You must wear the complete uniform and helmet, anytime the car is on the racetrack, due to insurance regulations.

            3.  Driving gloves and shoes are required.

 

BODY

           

      Ask about rules    what ever the rules are     remember your trailer

 

 

This class is intended to be inexpensive the purse will never be very big . This class is designed to have an affordable car that looks like an expensive car. If and when we find a loophole in the rules they will be amended .  If you have any suggestions as to make the class  better let me know I may not follow the suggestions but I will listen.

The track has the option to claim any motor for 750.00 or a swap. Shocks may also be claimed for 20.00 each.

 

 

                                                                            BODY

 SUPR rules apply with the exception of  1. only the large  supr spoiler
